Kizomba Workshop

Taught by Frances Tee and Jay Senior
Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance and music created in Angola in late 1989 and the early 1990's.  It is a fusion of Semba (the predecessor of samba) and the Zouk music styles from the French Caribbean Islands with influences from other Lusophone countries.  Derived directly from Zouk music, sung generally in Portuguese or Creole, it is a genre of music with a romantic flow and mixed with African rhythm.  The kizomba dancing style is also known to be very sensual.

If you've tried Kizomba before or if it's your first time, stop by and we'll have something for all of you to learn and try.  We'll review the basic steps and for those of you that have taken other workshops and our class series, then we'll give you something new to try  Stay afterwards for our monthly Bachata Social.

General Class Information:

  • No partner required (except for our special 'couples' classes, when offered).  However, to keep our classes balanced we sometimes have to limit registration for people without a partner.
  • Held at the Century Ballroom, West Hall, East Hall (all at 915 E Pine St) or HaLo (500 E Pike St), unless otherwise noted.  Be sure you know where your class is located.
  • In order to better balance classes, we encourage you to register early to ensure there is space available for you.  Those who register at the door will be admitted to class as space allows.
  • If you are paying by check, please check online or call the office to make sure there is still space in the class before sending in your registration.
  • No street shoes in HaLo or East Hall, please.  Please clean off a pair of shoes at home and change into them when you arrive.
  • There is a $5 fee for all class refunds, and you must contact our office to cancel.  You can avoid the fee by instead receiving a credit towards a future class or workshop.  You will be refunded or credited the amount you paid, prorated at the drop in price for your class for the number of classes attended.  Just call us at 206 324-7263 or email Classes@CenturyBallroom.com.

Practicing

  • It is great practice to attend any of our dances, but on Mondays and Tuesdays we host practicas and dances geared to our students.  While they are open to everyone, registered students will receive discount cards good for $2 off the cover charge on these days.   The Practicas are:
