On July 7th, 1st Fly Friday will be a Wax Soiree: come to Fly Friday looking fly in clothing made from wax fabric from Burkina-Faso.
Samir Bandaogo has taught Semba and Afrobeats at the Century Ballroom and is a native of Burkina-Faso. Samir recently started Botiminto, a non-profit organization providing educational support to primary school students in Zigla-Koupele, a village in Burkina-Faso.
He is part of a team launching a social venture selling men's dress shirts made with Wax fabric. The fabrics are sourced from Ghana & Ivory Coast and the shirts all made in the Land of the Upright People aka Burkina Faso by skilled artisan tailors. These fabrics will be sure to add vibrant color and style to your wardrobe.
The social impact of this venture is two fold:
- Increase economic opportunities (income) of the skilled tailors involved by giving them access to an international customer base
- Support education attainment by donating $5 per sale to Botiminto.
To get ready for this Wax Soiree, you can purchase a men's shirt directly from Samir who will be in Seattle June 24th. If you don’t live in Seattle you can purchase one through Etsy (a link will be available soon). If you are a female and you interested in an attire please get in touch directly with Samir and he’ll figure out a custom made item (deadline by Sunday June 11)
