CALLING ALL TANGO DJs
(or aspiring Tango DJs)
Century Ballroom is hosting the 2009 World Series of Tango DJs, a fun competition of Tango DJs Tuesdays in June.
Congratulations to the winners of our Prelims:
6/2: Anton & Jorge will move ahead to the next round with 16 votes each.
Nathaniel followed them closely with 15 votes.
6/9: Andrew & Sunil will move ahead to the next round.
Sunil and Jon were really neck and neck only a two person difference in votes
WE HAVE A WINNER!
Sunil won the first week and Andrew won the second week of Round Two. Since Sunil is unable to be present for the final round on 6/30, we are crowning Andrew the winner. He will play for the whole night on 6/30. Congratulations, Andrew!
Who Can Enter
Anyone who thinks they can keep the dance floor moving to a night of great tango music.
Novice and professional DJs are encouraged to participate.
All ages welcome.
You must be available on Tuesday nights for the month of June.
How the Finalists and Winner are chosen
Everyone attending a dance will be given a ballot when they enter and be encouraged to rank the DJs for the night. In the case of a tie between DJs, straws will be drawn.
Ballot stuffing will not be permitted.
Ballroom stuffing, however, is actively encouraged. Bring your friends to vote for you!
How the competition works
There will be a preliminary round, second round, and then the finals.
- Prelims (6/2 & 6/9)
The first two weeks in June the prelims will happen. Both Tuesday nights will have four djs spinning two sets during the evening (20 minutes each).
The top two ranked DJs in a given night will move to the 2nd round.
- Round Two (6/16 & 6/23)
The remaining four will be divided into pairs. These DJs will each play two 45 minute sets. Again, based on voting by those in attendance, the winner of round two will move onto the finals.
- Finals (6/30)
In the finals the two remaining contestants will again each play two 45 minute sets.
Grand Prize:
$250 in cash plus paid DJing opportunities at Century Ballroom at either (or both) Tuesday night practica or the monthly Friday night Milonga.
